Yosemite National Park (part 1)

We entered Yosemite Park from the east entrance at Tioga pass. From the first few miles before we actually entered the gate of Yosemite we knew we were in for a treat. As it turned out this area was wonderful but nothing in comparison to what we would experience. At the entrance we were told that in the early morning about 52 miles into the park that a semi had turned over and it looked like it would take several hours to get traffic moving. The wreck was blocking the road to the main Valley. At this point it was not an issue for us as we would not be staying in the park for the night anyway. It did mean however if the road was not cleared in 6 to 8 hours we would have to go out of our way about 3 hours to get to the lodge where we would be staying for the night. As we adventured into the park we stopped at several locations and did some hiking that we might not have done if it had not been for the wreck.

At the end of the day the wreck was not cleared so we did have to take the 3 hour detour to our scheduled Lodge (Cedar Lodge) just outside of the Western/Southern entrance. Most of the time we stay just outside of a national parks. It is much less expensive and usually a small drive to get access to inside the park. We have found that if we get an early start parking is not an issue. Usually anytime between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM parking is very limited. .............Below is picture of where we stayed .
